Two Cats Volume I Posted: 21 Dec 2011 05:30 AM PST Two Cats Volume I by Aaron Kite Politicians are nothing more than a bunch of thieves and crooks, as everyone surely knows. Nowhere is this statement truer than in Harael. It’s a city where citizens are taxed ‘protection money’ by the thieves who rule it, where unauthorized crime is all but nonexistent, and where stealing jewel-encrusted valuables from opulent estates in the dead of night is more about political intrigue and the ability to control your environment than it is about monetary gain. So when Lord Vincent Tucat stumbles upon an alarmingly brazen plot to steal from him, the idea of embarrassingly turning the tables on his unknown enemy proves too tempting to resist. The robbery is foiled, and the icing on the cake is that he’s also able to maneuver the would-be thief, a dismally untalented young Lord named Angelo Teuring, into accepting a very public duel against him. Given Vincent’s reputation with a sword, and his unwilling opponent’s reputation for repeatedly disarming himself against wooden practice dummies, the outcome is already being called a foregone conclusion. Except that some things about this situation aren’t quite adding up. Why did so many other people know about Lord Teuring’s burglary attempt before it happened? What is the penniless young Lord doing with two priceless antique blades, when all evidence suggests he needs to be shown which end of a sword is the dangerous one? Could anyone truly be as terrible with a sword as he seems to be? Why does Vincent feel like he’s the one being played here? TWO CATS is a fantasy novel set in the city of Harael, the first in a series based on the character Vincent Tucat.
