Posted: 05 Nov 2011 06:30 AM PDT Touchstone by Letitia Coyne War is hell, and then it starts to hurt. When war is all you’ve ever known, the promise of peace is more terrifying than any battle. For Freya, there was no life worth remembering before the army, and none worth imagining after. Born to the lowest caste of a brutally bigoted society, she’s found no more horror on the battlefield than she knew on the streets. And she’s earned a lot more respect with a sword in her hand. As a young man, Dragan was blooded on the rush of adrenaline and sated by the euphoria of victory. With Freya beside him as his partner, he was indestructible. But age and mortality are gaining ground, and cracks have started to appear. He’s had fifteen years of war and he’s earned his share of peace. Together they survived the war, they made the perfect team. But can they survive peace when it means different things to each of them?

His rambling old house sits in the middle of 3000+ remote acres in west Texas. Aside from the love of ranch life, to her, the job is an ideal way to save money for a down payment on her own place. To him it is freedom from housework so he can work the ranch. But respect and admiration spawn a much deeper emotion – one that gets out of control in fuzzy stages that blend into each other.

Johnny: Patron Saint of the Traveler Posted: 05 Nov 2011 06:20 AM PDT Johnny: Patron Saint of the Traveler by Josh Downey Johnny: Patron Saint of the Traveler is a story about a man in his mid-twenties that is looking to break the monotony of the life he dreamed of as a child, working with art. Johnny holds a job as a curator for a small museum in New York City, lives alone, owes creditors money (though he has the money to pay his bills), and often fantasizes about the women he wants. Breaking the tedious lifestyle that Johnny followed was the entrance of two women into his life; Samantha, a woman that seems to be Hell-bent on destroying Johnny’s life, and Suzanne, a local deli worker that catches Johnny’s eye each day as he walks to work. Each woman is of completely separate personalities, and each woman is highly influential in the way that Johnny acts. As of yet, Johnny has not found the closure and reassurance he needs in life. Tragedies have filled his childhood and monotony fills his mid-twenties. Johnny works as a curator at an art museum and spends much of his time photographing others, smoking, and drinking. His only relationship in the city is with Samantha, a recovering addict, who tends to make his days stressful. He has found no other interests in NYC until he meets Suzanne, a deli worker with a youthful heart. His days have changed for the better. He becomes what he hates. He changes everything in his life, though he changes nothing, always on the run from his past, always on the move. The only thing he has owned most of his life is his St. Christopher medallion, the Patron Saint of travelers, the Patron Saint of Johnny.
